Reducing erosion from unpaved roads

As the first step towards reducing erosion from unpaved roads in the Lake Wister watershed, PVIA partnered with the Choctaw Nation and the Nature Conservancy to present a workshop on the topic. The workshop was held on February 28, 2013 at Lake Wister. Forty-three people attended from eastern Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Missouri. You can review the agenda for the workshop here.

Each workshop attendee went home with a copy of the manual of road construction and maintenance best practices recently produced by the US Forest Service in collaboration with the Center for Dirt and Gravel Road Studies at Pennsylvania State University. You can review the manual by clicking here (Note: this is a large pdf file and may take awhile to download.)

Technical bulletins and other information can also be accessed on the Center’s website.
