Unpaved Roads Assessment Training

The most common cause of water decline in Oklahoma is excess sediment. One of the leading sources of excess sediment is erosion from UNPAVED ROADS. PVIA is helping sponsor this workshop to teach methods and tools to assess the soil erosion potential of unpaved roads and estimate sediment erosion rates. New and improved techniques for road maintenance can reduce erosion AND save money. In turn, these procedures allow targeting of high priority areas for road improvements to reduce erosion.

The Workshop will be held in Poteau with a field component in the nearby New Spiro Lake/Holi-Tuska Cree watershed. The workshop is intended for staff in Oklahoma state and local agencies and nonprofit organizations who would like to learn these techniques and then begin to implement them in their own watersheds.
